Snapchat Now Most Popular Social Network for Teens

As of December 2015, Facebook had 1.59 billion monthly active users, with millions more using the standalone Messenger app. When it comes to raw user numbers, no other network or messaging app comes close.

However, these numbers do not necessarily reflect users' feelings about a product. Users' enjoyment and perception of importance, as well as popularity among specific demographics, are not reflected in overall user number stats. So while Facebook may be the go-to social option for marketers playing the numbers game, there's a different service that should be focused on to reach the hearts of young people: Snapchat.

Over Half of Internet Users Now Visit More Than One Social Media Site

A Pew Research report published last week has outlined some of the major trends in social media use over the last year in America. Unsurprisingly, the popularity of many social networks continues to grow, with many platforms seeing significant increases in user numbers.

The report contains a ton of interesting findings that can help paint a picture of how social media is currently being used. For marketers, one of the most potentially crucial takeaways from the research involves the fact that 52 percent of internet-using adults now visit two or more social media sites.

Google Buys Jetpac in Latest String of Acquisitions

It's common knowledge that Google has been purchasing startup companies of all types for years. According to this list, Google acquired 18 companies in 2013, and it's bought well over 20 businesses so far this year. The latest Google Acquisition is a unique travel app known as Jetpac.

The Jetpac website doesn't go into any detail about Google's plans, but it's thought that Jetpac's technology could be used to enhance Google Maps and Google+. Jetpac will be pulled from the App Store soon, and support for the app will end on September 15.

New Instagram Terms of Service Stir Outrage

Photo sharing service Instagram made a lot of loyal users royally unhappy yesterday when they introduced their new terms of service, as reported by GizMag, Business Insider and others.

The new terms state that "you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service." In other words, anything you post to Instagram, including images of you, things you own and things you've created, effectively becomes their property to sell to whomever they'd like.

It's been about eight months since Facebook made the largest purchase in its short company history, acquiring photo sharing and limited-editing service Instagram for the cool sum of $1 billion in stock options and cash.

Twitter and Instagram have had a strained relationship that has led to disabling the Instagram photo integration on Twitter starting December 9th. However, Twitter knows how important a simple, powerful, efficient photo sharing and editing service is to social media, and has decided to partner with Aviary - a service very similar to Instagram.
